Scandal
2010, video; sound; 19’51’’; single channel

“Scandal” (2010) is a recording of Lin Yilin’s site-specific performance on the afternoon of April 17, 2010. Lin invited a curator, a gallerist, a museum director, a critic, an auction house official, and an Art Fair chairman to drink at a bar in Beijing’s 798 Art District, followed by carpooling together to the “ia32 Space” opening reception. The original plan was, at exactly 4 o’clock, the group would enter the “Space” scene in a drunken state, finger pointing and scuffling. But as time gradually passed, officials received endless phone calls reporting the travel status of this group of people – they ultimately failed to reach the opening. Barely halfway there, then police stopped them for either drunk driving or brawling and had brought to the police station. (Wang Beili)
